Grace in the old testament

Salvation in the new testament

Enternal Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

(Acts 4:10-12 [KJV])
[10] Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
[11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
[12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
(John 3:16 [KJV])
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(I Corinthians 15:1-4 [KJV])
 [1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
 [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Jesus is The Word of God.

(Revelation of John 19:13 [KJV]) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Jesus and the Father are one.

(I John 5:7 [KJV]) For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Jesus Christ is God the Father manifested in the flesh.

(I Timothy 3:16 [KJV]) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
(John 5:24 [KJV]) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
(John 14:8-9 [KJV])
[8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
[9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Jesus Christ the same always.

(Hebrews 13:8 [KJV]) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Its all by grace in the new testament

(Romans 3:20 [KJV]) Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
(Galatians 3:10-11 [KJV])
[10] For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
[11] But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
(Galatians 2:16 [KJV]) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The scripture cannot be broken so this has to be true.

(John 10:35 [KJV]) If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

The scripture is sufficient to salvation.

1 Mary commeth to the Sepulchre. 3 So doe Peter and Iohn ignorant of the Resurrection. 11 Iesus appeareth to Mary Magdalene, 19 And to his Disciples. 24 The incredulitie, and confession of Thomas. 30 The Scripture is sufficient to saluation.

The gospel in the old testament

Salvation was by simple faith in the old testament.

(Genesis 15:6 [KJV]) And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

This is also clearly stated in Romans 4.

(Romans 4:1-16 [KJV])
[1] What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
[2] For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
[3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
[4] Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
[5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
[6] Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
[7] Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
[8] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
[9] Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
[10] How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
[11] And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
[12] And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
[13] For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
[14] For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
[15] Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
[16] Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Romans 4:8 above shows that also David talked about imputed righteousness without works.

Jesus Christ was the same in the old testament as today.

(Hebrews 13:8 [KJV]) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

We see that they were saved by faith without works in the old testament.

(Acts 15:10-11 [KJV])
[10] Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
[11] But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Its the same God that spoke to them in the old testament as in the new.

(Hebrews 1:1-2 [KJV])
[1] God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
 [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Abraham was saved by faith in God as new testament believers are.

(Galatians 3:6-8 [KJV])
[6] Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
[7] Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
[8] And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

David had the same Lord and the same God as we do today. His Lord was Jesus Christ and his God was God the Father.

(Psalms 110:1 [KJV]) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
(Matthew 22:41-45 [KJV])
[41] While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
[42] Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
[43] He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
[44] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
[45] If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
(Hebrews 11:13 [KJV]) These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Notice above in Heb 11:13 that the old testament saints were persuaded by the promises that they had seen afar off.

Notice below that the spirit of Christ was in the old testament saints.

1 Peter 1:11 (KJV) Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
