What happened to Mume
Intro
Mume is a multi user middle earth game[1][2].
Its based on J.R.R. Tolkiens books[3].
What happened to Mume
I believe that what happened to the mud was that it was taken over by gods. Basically the mud is run by gods of the implementer status, the highest status. They cannot be removed and they basically have total control of the game. Also they will not allow for the code to be shared so that the game could be copied and setup and run by another authority.
Mume initially in 1995 had a big player base and a lot of fun things happened in the game. It was really cool and great. But even back then it was run by these implementers that ultimately had total power over the game.
It is my belief that, since these gods have total control of the game and can influence the development of the game the way they want, it was developed in the direction of these high gods.
But the players of the game eventually stopped playing and or left the game. Some became lower gods and focused more on that, others just left never to play again.
Why did this happen. Well I believe that the skilled cool fun players who came there to play the game. I believe that the highest gods became envious of the attention that these players received and started to develop or change the game more the way the higher gods visioned or believed that it should be. So it eventually became a god game, not a player game. Now not many play it and it isn't fun as it used to be back in 1995. Its just not fun anymore.
So it was fun back in 1995. Some people seems to say that the game died sometime after 2005.[4] Now in 2023 the continuous influence of these gods on the game has destroyed the game.
Tolkien and God
Now from a spiritual level you can question if it is really wise to play a Tolkien based game. Why because Tolkien basically focused on the legends or fables and Gods word advises us not to do that.
Also I believe that the Tolkien interpretation of supernatural things like elves, dwarfs, hobbits is really an embellishment of evil supernatural beings. I believe that elves and other of these non human creatures are evil creatures related more to the devil, demons, fallen angels than to God.
So this interpretation of things by Tolkien where he puts the elves closer to the gods like Eru[5] is really a Satanic interpretation of the world. This fits more with like Greek mythology and other mythologies that often have these strong creatures with long lives as gods, than with Christianity.
So Tolkien interpretation is not biblical and is even misleading, leading people right to Satan rather than to God.
Then again you could just argue that grown up people shouldn't focus on the fables and shouldn't waste their time playing games.
