Signs of the End: Destabilization of America and the Siege of Israel

The present convergence of escalating unrest in the United States and open warfare between Israel and Iran has led many to reconsider the prophetic timeline revealed in the Bible. Recent events—nationwide riots, foreign-backed subversion, and the outbreak of major hostilities in the Middle East—mirror passages in Jeremiah, Zechariah, and Revelation that speak of the final days before the return of Jesus Christ. This article examines these developments in the light of Scripture, focusing on the dual crisis: the destabilization and judgment of America (the daughter of Babylon) and the looming siege of Israel.

The Destabilization of America: Daughter of Babylon?

A growing number of observers see the United States as fitting the prophetic descriptions of Babylon in the end times. Scripture describes a wealthy, influential, yet morally compromised nation that is suddenly destroyed:

"The hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken: how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!" — Jeremiah 50:23

"And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant." — Jeremiah 51:37

Today, America faces internal destabilization through riots, division, and what some suspect is intentional subversion by powerful financial and political actors. The intelligence agencies, historically active in controlling domestic unrest (e.g., COINTELPRO against the Black Panthers), now appear unwilling or unable to intervene. Some interpret this as a form of judgment, a scenario in which Babylon is left to collapse from within.

Riots, Sabotage, and the “No King” Principle

The Bible notes the power of decentralized movements:

"The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands." — Proverbs 30:27

Modern protest movements often lack visible leaders but act in coordinated fashion, sometimes fueled by outside funding. The inability—or unwillingness—of the authorities to stop this wave of unrest is seen by some as either complicity or strategic neglect. This fits Jeremiah’s warnings: "Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert." (Jeremiah 50:12)

The War Between Israel and Iran: Zechariah’s Siege

On the night of 12–13 June 2025, open war erupted between Israel and Iran. Israel launched major airstrikes against Iranian military and nuclear targets, while Iran’s armed forces threatened massive retaliation against both Israel and the United States. These events echo the warnings of the prophets regarding a final siege of Jerusalem:

"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about… And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces." — Zechariah 12:2–3

"For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle…" — Zechariah 14:2

Nuclear or Supernatural Judgment: Zechariah 14:12

As the rhetoric between Israel, Iran, and their proxies intensifies—with the real possibility of weapons of mass destruction being used—some point to Zechariah’s description of supernatural judgment:

"And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth." — Zechariah 14:12

Many have noted the similarity of this passage to the effects of nuclear weapons, though it could also describe direct divine intervention.

The Prophetic Sequence: Two Major Views

There are two main interpretations of how these events fit the end-times timeline:

Zechariah 12 as the Return of Jesus
Some see the siege of Jerusalem as the final world attack that is ended by the visible return of Jesus Christ. Israel sees their Messiah, repents, and the Millennium begins.
Zechariah 12 as the Beginning of the Great Tribulation
Others see the sign of the Son of man in the sky as a warning, marking the start of the Great Tribulation (the final 3.5 years), with the actual return of Jesus following a period of intense global judgment.

Conclusion

Both the destabilization of America and the outbreak of war in Israel are consistent with key biblical prophecies about the end times. America appears to fulfill the role of Babylon—wealthy, influential, suddenly destroyed—while the siege of Israel aligns with Zechariah’s vision of Jerusalem as the center of global conflict. Whether the world is witnessing the immediate return of Jesus or the opening of the Great Tribulation, the signs point to a moment of prophetic significance. The call of Scripture is urgent: "Come out of her, my people…" (Revelation 18:4), and, for Israel, "they shall look upon me whom they have pierced" (Zechariah 12:10).
