Methodist branch
What is the methodist branch?
Well its basically those denominations that have the methodists as their origin.
So looking at a denominational tree or searching for it on google you will see that the methodists are the church fathers of the pentacostals, the holiness movement, the charismatics and the salvation army.
Here below I have made an example denominational tree:
- First Christians
- Orthodox
- Roman Catholic
- Presbyterian
- URC
- Church of England
- Methodist
- Salvation army
- Pentacostal
- Independant Charismatic
- Congregational
- Society of Friends
- Baptists
- Exclusive Brethren
- Brethren
- Methodist
- Lutheran
- Presbyterian
So you can see above that the Methodists are the church fathers of the salvation army, the Pentecostals and the Charismatics.
Now I would claim that there is some difference between the denominations and that these three denominations, the salvation army, the pentacostals and the charismatics have things in common that makes it appropriate to talk about the methodist branch.
Now the methodists where started by John Wesley.
Now they were named methodists for "the methodical way in which they carried out their Christian faith"[1].
But if you think about it that is actually work salvation and grace and work does not mix.
(Romans 11:6 [KJV]) And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Now I understand that they need to make a living and pay the electricity in their church building and the salary of their pastor but grace and work does not mix. Maybe it is so that its a place where a work salvationist can feel at home and be accepted and receive respect and authority and a little leaven leaventh the whole lump.
(Galatians 5:9 [KJV]) A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
The bottom line is that they are methodists. That is its not by grace through faith in Christ alone its by some method and isn't a method work salvation.
Salvation isn't collective anyway, its individual. So contributing to some church building wont save you eternally and the people running it tend to be those that can get people to work for their church because they need a lot of cash per year to survive. So money becomes the bottom line in the building, donations and voluntary work for the church.
I would claim that people can spend their entire life in one of these methodist branch churches and never get saved, never receive the grace of God because grace and work does not mix. And then they fall into the lake of fire.
Since work salvationists tend to be attracted to this branch you are likely to meet these kind of people as elders in it.
(Matthew 23:15 [KJV]) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
