The Talmud Is Not the Foundation of Europe
On April 8, 2025, Ursula von der Leyen, unelected head of the European Commission, publicly stated that "Europe is the values of the Talmud, the Jewish sense of personal responsibility, of justice, and of solidarity." This declaration caused concern among many observers, particularly among Christians who recognize that Europe's true foundation is rooted in Christianity, not the rabbinic teachings of the Talmud.
While it is historically true that Christianity came through the Jewish people and that the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) form the first part of the Christian Bible, it is incorrect and misleading to equate the Talmud with the spiritual or moral basis of Europe. The Talmud is not the Torah. It is not Scripture. It is not the Word of God.
The Talmud, developed centuries after the completion of the Old Testament, consists of rabbinical commentaries, oral traditions, and legal rulings. Jesus Christ warned explicitly about the danger of elevating man-made tradition above God's Word. In Mark 7:7-8 (KJV), He said:
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men.
The Talmud is extra-biblical. It is not inspired Scripture and often contains teachings that oppose or even blaspheme Jesus Christ. Therefore, when Ursula von der Leyen claims the Talmud represents European values, she is aligning with a tradition that rejects the very foundation of salvation: the Lord Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, her omission of Christianity in such a statement is consistent with a pattern. The Pope himself has stated he does not want to hear about Europe's Christian roots, even as churches are burned and faith is mocked across the continent. Christianity, which brought forth the ideas of individual worth, inherent dignity, moral responsibility, and God's love for humankind, which shaped Europe for centuries. To deny this is either ignorance or rebellion.
This confusion and rewriting of history is not accidental. It is part of a broader spiritual conflict. As Alex Jones rightly pointed out, what is happening in the political sphere mirrors deeper forces at work. Alex Jones, a believer in Jesus Christ, speaks in defense of Christ, lifts up Christendom, and opposes the lies of globalism. In contrast, von der Leyen shows no evidence of faith in Jesus Christ. Even if she were to claim some affiliation with Christianity, it would likely be for political gain rather than a heartfelt confession of Jesus as Lord.
Most world leaders today are not saved. They are secular, serving worldly agendas. When they do claim Christianity, it is often to manipulate or pacify believing populations. Donald Trump, for example, has never clearly confessed Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. Vladimir Putin quotes Scripture, but twists it. He famously misused John 15:13 to inspire Russians to die for his war, ignoring the fact that this verse is about Jesus Christ laying down His life for the ungodly (Romans 5:6).
Ye shall know them by their fruits
(Matthew 7:16, KJV). The fruit of these world leaders is often deception, control, and bloodshed. In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith (Galatians 5:22). The true foundation of Europe, and of any nation that prospers in truth, is found in Jesus Christ—not in the Talmud, not in political traditions, and certainly not in the globalist agenda.
Europe was Christendom. It rose because of Christ. And it will only stand again if it returns to Him.
