Sweden's Last Remnant
Sweden's Last Remnant
Chapter 1: Unfolding Shadows
Erik Jansson awoke to the hum of his alarm clock in his modest apartment in central Stockholm. As a Christian KJV-believing man, his first action was always the same—kneeling at the edge of his bed, praying for wisdom and protection. The morning light filtered through the blinds, but something in the air felt heavy, almost as though the city itself was holding its breath.
The day began as usual, with news broadcasts blaring from the TV about a sharp decline in the global financial markets. A major American bank had failed overnight, and whispers of fractional reserve banking collapses were quickly spreading across Europe. Sweden’s Riksbank was scrambling to calm citizens, but confidence was waning fast. The streets below Erik’s apartment were bustling, but unease lingered on people’s faces as they passed by the cafes and shops.
“Lord, guide me through this chaos,” Erik whispered before grabbing his coat and heading out.
Chapter 2: The Silent Panic
By the time Erik reached his small electronics repair shop, there was already a line of customers waiting outside. “I can’t access my savings,” one of them exclaimed, holding up her phone. “My bank app keeps crashing.”
Inside, his radio was tuned to the local news. “Several Swedish banks have limited withdrawals to curb panic,” the announcer said. “Meanwhile, grocery store shelves are emptying rapidly as citizens rush to stockpile food and water.”
Erik knew this wasn’t just a passing storm. The global collapse predicted by many—and warned about by voices like Matt Bracken—was finally here. He closed the shop early and headed to a local supermarket, but it was too late. The shelves were barren, and crowds were growing hostile. Someone shoved him as they made off with the last crate of bottled water.
“I need to get out of the city,” he thought, gripping the steering wheel of his old Volvo as he headed back home. He packed what little food and water he had left and loaded a Bible into his backpack.
Chapter 3: A Nation in Darkness
Two weeks later, the power grid across southern Sweden collapsed. The government cited cyberattacks on critical infrastructure, likely coordinated by foreign actors. Without electricity, water purification plants stopped functioning, and Stockholm fell into chaos. Fires burned in the distance, and the once peaceful neighborhoods had become dangerous, as desperate citizens raided homes for food.
Erik had already left the city, following rural roads toward the cabin his late father had built in the forests of Dalarna. As he drove, he passed abandoned vehicles and looted gas stations. The radio static finally cleared, and a brief emergency broadcast announced that European markets had closed indefinitely. The Swedish krona had lost almost all of its value.
“This is the beginning of the end,” Erik muttered, gripping the wheel. The prophecies he had studied in the Bible seemed to align with what was unfolding around him.
Chapter 4: Survival Amid the Collapse
At the cabin, Erik found temporary solace. The nearby lake provided water, and he managed to catch fish and forage for berries. But isolation brought its own dangers. One night, as he read his Bible by candlelight, he heard voices outside.
“There’s a cabin here. They might have food.”
Erik quickly extinguished the light and grabbed a hunting rifle his father had left behind. He prayed for protection as the sound of footsteps approached. Moments later, a rock shattered the window, and a man tried to climb inside. Without hesitation, Erik fired a warning shot, and the intruders fled into the darkness.
“Lord, protect me from what’s to come,” he prayed, heart pounding.
Chapter 5: The Great Collapse
As spring turned into summer, Sweden’s collapse deepened. With the food supply chain severed, even rural areas became battlegrounds for survival. Bands of desperate people roamed the countryside, stealing livestock and raiding farms. The government’s authority had crumbled, and lawlessness reigned.
Erik encountered refugees along the way—some begging for food, others offering grim warnings of what lay ahead. “They’re eating each other in the cities,” one man whispered, eyes hollow. “The cannibal gangs have taken over.”
Erik couldn’t help but recall the warnings from prophecy. The parallels to wars, famines, and death described in Revelation were impossible to ignore. “This isn’t just societal collapse—it’s the tribulation taking form,” he realized.
Chapter 6: Signs of the Tribulation
By late summer, a strange silence fell over the land. Erik observed unnatural weather patterns—violent storms followed by scorching heat—and heard reports of earthquakes in neighboring countries. Plagues swept through refugee camps, claiming thousands of lives. Food had become so scarce that murder was commonplace.
One day, while searching for firewood, Erik stumbled upon a small group of believers hiding in an abandoned church. They had gathered to read Scripture and share what little food they had. Erik joined them, and they discussed the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation.
“This is the time of sorrows,” an elderly man said, clutching his Bible. “We must endure, but we cannot stop what’s coming.”
Chapter 7: The Great Tribulation Begins
By fall, Sweden’s rural areas were no longer safe. A global government had emerged, enforcing strict rationing and mandatory tracking through implanted chips. Erik refused the implant, knowing it aligned with the Mark of the Beast prophesied in Revelation. He became a fugitive, hunted by patrols enforcing the new world order.
As Erik moved through the dense forests, he saw drones scanning the area. Entire towns had been abandoned, their residents either dead or taken to camps. The air carried a constant smell of burning wood and decay.
“Lord, give me strength,” he prayed as he fled deeper into the wilderness.
One night, as he sat by a dying fire, he opened his Bible to Matthew 24. The words spoke directly to his heart:
“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”
He knew the worst was yet to come.
Chapter 8: The Final Struggle
By winter, the world had plunged into total darkness. The sun barely broke through the thick, ash-filled skies. The few survivors Erik encountered were either too weak to continue or had succumbed to despair.
One night, as he sheltered in an abandoned barn, he heard voices approaching. It was a patrol, their flashlights cutting through the darkness. Erik held his breath, clutching his Bible as he prepared for the inevitable confrontation.
The door creaked open, and he whispered his final prayer.
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.”
As the footsteps drew closer, the Great Tribulation had fully begun, and Erik knew there was no turning back.
