Salvation in the End Times Is Hidden

The Forgotten Savior of the City

The King James Bible describes an image of salvation that mirrors the experience of saved believers today—particularly in these end times. In Ecclesiastes 9:14–15, we read:

"There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man."

This passage is more than just a commentary on human ingratitude. It is a prophetic picture of the spiritual reality today. The poor wise man symbolizes the saved believer, or even Christ Himself—the one who brings truth and deliverance, but is unseen, unacknowledged, and forgotten by the world. It is not simply that the world overlooks wisdom when it comes from the lowly. Rather, this is the way salvation functions in general now: it is hidden, uncelebrated, and rejected by a world under the sway of deception.

Who Hears Us?

Scripture makes it clear that only those who are of God will truly hear and receive the message of salvation. As 1 John 4:5–6 states:

"They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error."

This is not a selective or occasional phenomenon. It is a permanent spiritual truth. The majority of the world is not of God. The high-status individuals, the leaders, the cultural icons—they are largely of the world. And therefore, they will not hear the gospel from us. Instead, they accept the voices that echo their own desires and priorities.

The Voice They Know

Jesus said:

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" (John 10:27)

Those who are saved—His sheep—hear Him. Those who are not, cannot hear. This is why the true gospel—faith alone in Christ alone—is often met with silence or hostility. It is not that people might miss it; it is that they will not hear unless they are born of God.

The Spirit of This World Rejects Christ

Isaiah foretold the rejection of Christ:

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief..." (Isaiah 53:3)

And John confirms this in the New Testament:

"But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:" (John 12:37)

This rejection continues in our day. The world follows spectacle and popularity, but it does not love truth. It loves its own. That is why false teachers rise to prominence—because they speak what the world wants to hear. Meanwhile, those who bear the true gospel live out their witness in obscurity, often unrecognized or mocked.

Conclusion

Living as a saved person today means walking in the footsteps of the forgotten man who saved the city. The wisdom that delivers is not seen. The salvation that is offered is not thanked. And the world moves on as if nothing happened. But this is the very mark of salvation in the end times—it is hidden from the wise and prudent, and revealed unto babes (Luke 10:21).
