The authorized version also called the king james bible has its own built in dictionary.
In fact the kjv is the english language.
Look for the first occurrence of the word in the bible. Swordsearcher or Strongs concordance can help for finding the first occurance.
Words are often defined in the same verse or in the same chapter.
Therefore word studies and phrase studies can be helpful to understand the kjv phrases and words.
There are books written on this and videos on youtube. Like "The Dictionary Inside the King James Bible by Gail Riplinger"[1].
Tools for searching in the king james bible for phrases and words
You can do word studies using
- swordsearcher for windows
- Tecarta bible for IOS.
- unbound bible for MAC
- Command line KJV on linux
- Xiphos for linux.
- KBPBS. (there also exist an app).
Or if you do not want to use a computer to search for words and phrases you can use:
- strongs concordance to find all occurrences of a word. Then you dont look at the greek and hebrew you only look at all the verses that contain the word.
- Cruden's complete concordance to the old and new testaments instead of strongs. It can be used to find all occurrences of a phrase in the kjv.
Or you can use:
- Reading the King James bible. Just reading the kjv is fine too. Especially if reading it from the beginning since words are generally defined the first time they are used in the kjv.
