Where Treasure Lies

Chapter 1: Shadows of the End

David Reed, a man shaped by scripture, had lived his life as a quiet KJV believer. He watched society evolve, grow corrupt, and diverge from the moral path laid out in God’s Word. He knew the words of 2 Timothy 3 by heart:

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy."

While many debated the timing of the "last days," David believed it spanned from Christ’s resurrection to His eventual return. He saw proof everywhere—on television, in politics, and even in the church.

Chapter 2: The False Christian

Alex Marks, a charismatic voice who claimed to stand for Christian values, was the public face of the local ecumenical council. But to David, Alex epitomized the warning Christ gave of wolves in sheep’s clothing. He had risen to prominence by fighting the corruption in society—or so he claimed.

In truth, Alex was deeply entangled in the world he criticized. His pursuit of righteousness wasn’t for God’s glory but for earthly validation. When the council accused him of mishandling donations, he fought back with lawsuits, media campaigns, and even money borrowed from his family. He had built his identity on his reputation within the world.

Matthew 6:21 echoed in David’s mind:

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Alex’s treasure was clear—fame, acceptance, and vindication from society.

Chapter 3: The Man Who Walked Away

In contrast stood Theodore, a quiet man who once had a steady job at a factory until his life unraveled. Fired for writing an inappropriate note to a woman—an action misunderstood by those around him—Theodore didn’t sue or protest. He left. He packed his belongings and retreated to a cabin deep in the wilderness, away from the eyes of the world.

Where others sought justice in courts and public opinion, Theodore sought peace in solitude. He accepted that he could not serve two masters. His heart belonged to neither wealth nor worldly acceptance but to a higher calling.

Chapter 4: A Society at War

As the years passed, society spiraled further into chaos. David watched news of political unrest, environmental catastrophes, and mass deception unfold. Even Alex, once a bold voice, had fallen silent. Financially ruined, his family broken, he had nothing left. His attempts to preserve his standing in the world had cost him his soul.

Meanwhile, David saw Theodore’s path in a new light. Though the man had withdrawn from the system, his spirit remained intact. He hadn’t bowed to corruption, nor had he allowed society’s judgment to sway him. Like Lot fleeing Sodom, Theodore escaped the entanglements of a doomed civilization.

Chapter 5: The Churches in Decline

In the city, the local churches had become dens of corruption. Pastors accused those who didn’t tithe or participate in church activities of lacking faith. Yet, these accusations often fell upon those with little to give—the poor, the widows, and the outcasts.

David saw the hypocrisy clearly. The same leaders who preached charity and love oppressed those they were meant to uplift. He remembered the Pharisees whom Christ rebuked for burdening others while neglecting the weightier matters of the law.

Chapter 6: Treasure in Heaven

David’s resolve deepened. He wouldn’t fight for earthly recognition or approval. Instead, he would follow the example of men like Theodore, who lived simply, humbly, and righteously.

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." (Matthew 6:19-20)

With this in mind, David left the city. Like Theodore, he found a small place in nature—a refuge where he could read God’s Word without distraction.

Chapter 7: The Great Tribulation

Years passed, and the world plunged into chaos. Wars erupted, economies collapsed, and natural disasters ravaged nations. The Great Tribulation had begun—the darkest time in human history.

David remained in his humble dwelling, untouched by much of the world’s turmoil. He knew what was coming but had prepared his heart and soul. He had no desire to return to the city or fight for acceptance. His mission was to endure until the end.

"But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." (Matthew 24:13)

Chapter 8: The Final Revelation

One night, as David prayed beneath a canopy of stars, he reflected on the paths of Alex and Theodore. Both had lived in the last days, but their choices defined their eternal destinies. Alex had clung to the world and lost everything. Theodore had let go and found peace.

David prayed that others would see the truth before it was too late. For him, the end was not something to fear but a promise to embrace—a promise of eternal life beyond the trials of this world.

As the sky darkened and the winds howled, David felt an overwhelming sense of peace. He had chosen the narrow path, and though it led through tribulation, it also led to life.
