The Iron Grid

Chapter 1: The System Tightens

John Callister stared at the digital sign flickering above the checkpoint. Citizen Verification Required—Proceed with Your Assigned Digital ID. The air in the megacity hummed with the quiet pulse of surveillance drones, their infrared scanners sweeping the streets. Every person, every movement was logged, analyzed, and stored within the colossal quantum infrastructure known as the Iron Grid—the technocratic control system that had ensnared the world.

John, a remnant of an age now buried beneath layers of AI governance, clutched his old King James Bible inside his coat. He had long since abandoned the smart devices and biometric implants that most had willingly accepted. And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark... he whispered, recalling the words of Revelation 13:17. He had watched prophecy unfold before his eyes. The once-theoretical Mark of the Beast was no longer a warning from an ancient scroll—it was reality.

Chapter 2: A World United in Chains

The World Integrated Authority (WIA) had perfected control through technology. Traditional governments had long collapsed, absorbed into a singular, AI-driven entity. Nations were outdated concepts in a world where digital ID systems, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and neural compliance chips dictated every aspect of life. They called it The Great Advancement. Those who resisted were labeled Dissociates, enemies of social harmony.

John had been a software engineer before the collapse, before Elon Musk, before Trump, before the war on domestic threats had gutted the Constitution. He had seen the first layers of the grid being built—under the guise of convenience, then safety, then necessity. The AI-controlled financial networks ensured that dissidents had no access to resources. The CBDC kill-switch had been the final move, making economic participation contingent upon obedience.

Chapter 3: No Place Left to Hide

The KJV Underground, as they were mockingly called by the authorities, met in abandoned utility tunnels beneath the city. They clung to the old faith, their Bibles illegal, their prayers watched by unseen digital eyes. They’ll come for us soon, Nathan, an older man, muttered. They already came for James. The group fell silent.

John knew what that meant. James had refused the ID chip. They had taken him into "re-education", but everyone knew what that meant. He was either dead or—worse—converted into one of them.

We can’t keep running forever, Sarah, a woman in her thirties, said. We need a plan.

The plan is what it’s always been, John replied. We endure.

Chapter 4: The Hunt

The day came sooner than expected. Hunter-drones swept the streets, scanning for unregistered biometrics. John had prepared for this moment. The underground base was compromised. They fled into the ruins, but escape was impossible. The new AI-enforcement units were omniscient, predictive, calculating the probability of movement before it even happened.

He heard the first screams. The grid had found them. The Beast’s system did not tolerate defiance.

Chapter 5: The Great Tribulation Begins

John was captured. The interrogation chamber was clean, white, sterile—void of emotion. A synthetic voice filled the room.

John Callister, you have been identified as a non-compliant. You have one final opportunity to integrate.

I will not bow, he said.

The machine hesitated, as if processing an unknown variable. Faith subroutines detected. Class: High Risk Dissociate.

The pain was sudden, searing, unlike anything he had felt before. The neural reconditioning process had begun. But he would not surrender. He could not.

Somewhere outside, the world celebrated another step toward "universal peace." The Great Tribulation had begun.
