Your bank account

Lets say that you want to leave Sweden and have a sick pension and want to go to Thailand and live there.

You want to get away from this system in Sweden.

In Thailand if you are a strong man you could easily provide for yourself just by your physical strength and if you have a girlfriend that has her own house then you could live there.

What you would do first is probably to change the bank account registered for receiving your sick pension at the Swedish state insurance to another bank, to a bank that exist in Thailand that you can enter once you are in Thailand and take out money there.

Possibly you could transfer your sick pension to an international bank that exist in both Sweden and Thailand. Such as Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank , HSBC. They probably or at least some of them exist in both Sweden and Thailand. You would have to call them. Most likely in Sweden they would have their office in Stockholm.

Alternatively change your sick pension bank account to a bank in Thailand that caters to expats, such as Bangkok Bank, Kasikornbank, Siam Commercial Bank.

Once you have sorted out the bank stuff and have your sick pension going to this bank you could cancel the contract of your apartment, store your stuff somewhere and prepare to leave Sweden.

This way you would get away from the problems of a welfare state like Sweden.

Documentation and bureaucracy

Notify Swedish Authorities, Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), inform them that you are moving abroad (Moving abroad (SKV 7665)), inform Swedish Pensions Agency (Pensionsmyndigheten), update them with your new address, where you are planning to live in Thailand.

To continue receiving your pension while living abroad, you must submit a life certificate annually. Completing the Life Certificate either online yearly at pensionsmyndigheten.se using bankid or use the Swedish embassy to get the paper stamped and then submit it manually. This is to prove that you are alive so that you can continue to receive money from the Swedish state insurance.

Get a Thai visa preferably a long term visa, Non-Immigrant Visa "O-A" (Long Stay). Thailand may require proof of health insurance for long-term visas so you might have to get a health insurance.
